Patient Participation Group
In December 2011 the Devon Road Practice established an arrangement for patient participation through a Patient Participation Panel ("the Panel").
The purpose of patient participation is to ensure that patients are involved in decisions about the range and quality of services provided, and over time, commissioned by the Practice.
Initially the panel was drawn together by invitation, from registered patients of the Practice.
This worked well until earlier this year when we found ourselves without a chairman and nobody able to take this on. We decided to establish a virtual Patient Participation Group (VPPG) as our principal mechanism for patient participation. Having a VPPG allows us to increase our numbers, get a more representative group who could be contacted via email or text for their feedback. We still retain a Virtual Patient Participation Panel (VPPP). The VPPP will act as an editorial panel for the Practice newsletter which will be produced by the Practice and advise on matters to be consulted about. The Practice believes that the creation of such an arrangement will ensure there is a systematic way for obtaining patient feedback and suggestions for improvement. A survey to be carried out on at least annually will be managed by the Practice after initial consultation with the VPPP will help the Practice make better use of its resources, improve communications and focus the services of the Practice to the particular needs of the patients of the Devon Road Surgery, or if a survey is not carried out, feedback given in other ways will be used to shape any action plans.
